"There is a lot of portent to this writing. Normally, knowing at least the essence of the conclusion would be a disappointment. Not so for this reader of only this volume. I attribute this to the emotional flow of the story. The author not only writes well, beautifully; she brings her reader into the hopes, feelings, expectations and disappointments of the main characters against the background of the mores and laws of the times. I am engaged in this story in a way I don’t find in most fictional tales I read. I look forward to volume 2."

"I absolutely loved The Promise of Wonder. Anyone who's read Katherine Webb before will already know how brilliantly she brings history to life and this is no exception. The period detail is fascinating – you just feel completely immersed in the lives of the characters and fully invested in what happens to them. Beautifully written, intelligent historical fiction and an easy five stars from me. I can't wait for book two and to see how the story continues!
